Getting Older

So I was driving the other day and thinking about aging.  When we are young, we don't often think about it unless we see someone that's older and reflect upon ourselves.  I come from a Cuban background myself and I know that when you are Cuban and old, it's not a good thing.  I remember when I was young, elders told me not to get old because it's not good (as if I could've done something about it).  I also remember how they say how terrible it is to get old.

I used to think that way because that's the way I was programmed, and if you know me, I always talk about subconscious programming.  (Maybe because I am a hypnotist) but anyway, now I think that getting older can be a great experience.  I believe that it's a chance to show off our wisdom and strength (if we prepare ourselves when we are younger).  And when I say prepare, I don't mean like you are preparing for a hurricane, it's more of a mental preparation.

I have suggestions on what to do, but first I'd like to hear from you.  What's your idea of getting old and after getting some feedback, I'll tell you about my idea to make getting older a smoother transition.  Can't wait to read what you have to say.

Old age is like a huge volume filled with varied experiences. Its like a reference book or remedy book.
Getting old always does not mean getting wise. But preparing oneself to that state at the early age will make a lot of difference. With right frame of mind and clarity in thought one can deduce the end result of our present actions.

      Greetings Israel,

I am always interested in subjects that will help to enhance our lives (or more importantly, how we view them and consciously decide to pursue them.) I notice that this post was made in the middle of May and that it is the only one for this blog. I am hoping that you will choose to continue making posts on self improvement since I believe that it is a much needed topic of discussion for many readers.

My take on getting old may be a bit extreme one way or the other for someone with your educational background. However, it's about growth right? Growth is taking in all points of view and then making a decision based on logic and gut feeling what to believe or look further into.

Getting old is a blessing. That is if at some point in your life you can figure out the secrets to a happy life. It is different for every person so there is some self searching that needs to be done. For some it may be helping others. For others it may be running a business or living in a cardboard box depending on the love and generosity of others. Whatever it may be it is important that each person really takes the time to evaluate what truly drives them. Obviously the younger the better because they will then have more time to develop this passion or drive (and also go another route if it is found that it truly was not what they wanted to do.)

So, in keeping with your theme, I say that once this ideal life is found the prospect of getting old no longer holds the same meaning. To many of us it is about fear. Fear of getting old, fear of depending on others, fear of not knowing what will happen, and on and on. That is probably another topic for you to tackle with your educational background. Once a person can remove fear from their life then it will open up many more doors of happiness and success.

This will remove the fear of growing old and replace it with the joy of learning and living life to its fullest.

Again, I really hope that you start to write more frequently on your blog. You can give quite a bit to the world if you dedicate yourself. I am also starting a blog that is focused on self improvement but it will be from a different point of view. I do not have the educational background in psychology. What I do have are my life experiences and personal discoveries. However, what I have found is that true discovery comes when you have participation from many different lifestyles and backgrounds.

Good luck in your endeavors. I look forward to seeing this site get up and running.

With my blessings and sincerest regards,

      Mike
